Summary New Business Development provides leadership in Save the Children’s efforts to achieve greater program results at scale through the successful pursuit of large and strategic US government development funding opportunities.
You will help develop and execute the vision, strategy, and operational plan to support country and technical offices in positioning the agency to successfully compete for specific opportunities, responding to those opportunities with a quality process and product, building and maintaining an effective business development system of tools, processes and capacities across the agency.
You will provide technical assistance, support, and training to staff for new business development strategies and tasks from positioning through proposal submission, with a primary focus on large-scale, competitive fundraising opportunities from USAID and other public institutional sources.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties) Proposal Management (60%): Support positioning and capture strategies in partnership with Save the Children country offices and US technical staff: pipeline tracking, bid and competitiveness analysis, teaming strategy and partner selection, and proposal planning.
Gather and analyze donor intelligence and market research to position Save the Children as a partner of choice and a strong competitor Lead in proposal team management and capture management for strategic public institutional proposals, including USAID in Africa and across our global geographic coverage as needed; oversee technical, operational, and cost contributions to USG proposals from thematic, country office, and partner staff; write, review, and edit proposal sections; and lead in proposal production and quality control Coordinate proposal pricing, recruitment, technical, and management leads, guiding and supporting the development of coherent, responsive submissions that reflect best practices in business development Portfolio Management (20%): Serve as the New Business Development point of contact for select country offices in Africa, assisting them with positioning and capture planning efforts to develop a pipeline of US Government funding opportunities Facilitate identification of new opportunities and convene country offices and technical colleagues to explore and prepare in advance of solicitation release (setting clear objectives and measures to ensure timely progress) Knowledge Management and Capacity Building (15%): Contribute subject matter expertise to and support the dissemination of NBD tools, resources, learning materials, and other institutional BD knowledge; drive SCUS standards for best practice in business development Assist in organizing and utilizing department tools, templates, and capacity building resources in support of proposal development Strengthen the capacity of Save the Children International staff to respond to strategic opportunities through delivery of information training and tools, including country and regional trainings and/or one-on-one interaction with staff on proposal teams Support the analysis of Save the Children’s proposal performance, ensuring lessons and conclusions are documented, shared, and fed back into future proposal efforts Strategic Leadership and Representation (5%) Maintain strong relationships with other SCUS divisions, SC Members, SCI leadership, and relevant external networks to share knowledge, collaborate effectively, influence senior leadership for sound and informed decisions, and stay abreast of industry standards and the USG regulatory environment Build and strengthen relationships with and knowledge of partner organizations and represent SC effectively in teaming negotiations as well as industry networks Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience Demonstrated experience with program development, including proposal management, for large scale, multi-million dollar international development programs funded by USAID and other public institutional donors Proven record of success in developing competitive proposals for the USG in similar sectors and contexts as Save the Children Demonstrated knowledge of and direct experience developing proposals for USAID Cooperative Agreements and Contracts Proven experience creating and delivering face-to-face trainings and blended learning resources in cross-cultural contexts Demonstrated attention to detail, with a proven ability to work under tight deadlines and manage different tasks simultaneously and effectively Proven ability to represent organization effectively in positioning and negotiation with partner and donor organizations Willingness and ability to travel internationally 10-15% Professional proficiency in MS Office suite Professional proficiency in spoken and written English Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications Business Development experience targeting other donors (bi-lateral and/or multi-lateral funding agencies) International work experience Training and/or facilitation skills and experience desirable Compensation Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location: Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year.
Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
